The advocates of Britain’s political set-up often accept that it’s relatively undemocratic, but defend it on the basis that it delivers stability. Well, as we lurch towards a potential seventh PM in a decade, where’s that stability now?

This election signals a crisis for the British state

First Past the Post is bust. Scotland has delivered a mandate for an indyref, and Wales will have a pro-independence government. The Westminster parties are in death spirals. Across the UK, people voted against our political system. This election gave a clear signal: the British state is in a deep crisis.
