“I was raised to stay home!” Dan Pelosi (aka @grossypelosi) says, following it up with his contagious, hearty chuckle.

We would be too, if we were raised in the Italian-American Pelosi home, where “we didn’t do anything but eat and talk about eating.” Where Dan was given a handwritten note from his mother to leave school early to preheat the oven for pot roast. Where his grandfather Bimby helped toddler Dan invent “yuck cakes” made with whatever ingredients he wanted, baked, and taste-tested by Bimby.

And yet, Dan found his way to RISD, the prestigious Rhode Island School of Design, and then designed retail stores for malls. He started hosting a yearly cookie party, sharing bits and pieces and, finally, recipes online, and when the pandemic hit, everything shifted focus. Dan built an audience (including us!) who loved his joyful recipes, his boundless, friendly energy, and his mischievous sense of humor.

What happened next: His debut cookbook, Let’s Eat: 101 Recipes to Fill Your Heart & Home was an instant New York Times bestseller. He launched GrossyWorld, an online community with recipes and more. And now, Let’s Party: Recipes and Menus for Celebrating Every Day, is his wonderful entertaining-that-doesn’t-feel-like-entertaining book—and another bestseller!

He walks us through an epic recipe from Let’s Party for “ Death by Chocolate,” a ginormous chocolate cake trifle with dramatic droops of chocolate pudding and a topping of Oreo (or Heath) crumbles.
