to all the hopeless romantics
some words of comfort

For as long as I can remember I’ve been dreaming about the day I will meet my soulmate. If things weren't going well in my life, I would daydream about how I could create a better home with my future love. I would cope with the need to be seen by imagining all the ways I would be properly loved one day. This fantasy became a quiet refuge during the days where I felt the least understood.
Like water and oxygen, love too is vital for our survival. If we weren't loved properly growing up, we search for it desperately in others. We begin building homes inside people, blind to the truth that love was within us all along. This desperate search for love can often draw us to the wrong people who take advantage of this thirst and distort it. We somehow manage to find the very person whose home cannot contain us. And yet, we still stay.
We allow them to take us to desperate dark places in hopes of finding even an ounce of love. They stretch our limits until one day, we finally break. And in that breaking, they seem to confirm the very fear we carried with us all along—that we were unlovable.
And so we keep searching.
We head back on the road, broken yet still hungry, and search for another home.
Countless times we plead with God to allow us to settle and find love in another home. And countless times God sways us aside and responds, not here. We bargain, we beg, we hope, we plead. Until one day we give up and vow to never try again.
believing in love is an act of worship
Despite everything life has thrown at you, you’re still standing here today hoping to find love someday. And that is a testimony of your faith. Choosing hope, choosing love, even when the world gives you no reason to keep believing. True faith is setting aside your ego and allowing yourself to be vulnerable enough to admit to the universe, I still choose love.
If you have this unexplainable feeling that there is a soul out there that deeply connects with your own, it’s because they exist. God doesn't place healthy desires in us that aren’t meant to be fulfilled. We have these deeper callings within us that keep knocking on our doors because our souls are meant to complete them. And the first step in fulfilling these desires is to believe in them with absolute certainty. Anything else that convinces you otherwise is only trying to lead you astray from your higher path.
loving when your cup is full
There is a massive difference in the love you can provide when you're in survival mode vs. abundance. When you’re in lack, you seek love out of desperation in order to make you feel whole. You start needing other people for your own happiness and survival. This desperation will have you acting in ways that do not respect your own morals or standards. You start to lose yourself in hopes of finally being seen. It’s important to note that this form of connection is not rooted in love, rather in attachment. True love is expansion, not completion. You are whole as you are, and the presence of someone else only allows you to live more fully within yourself.
I am starting to learn that the purest form of love is wanting to share the experience of this miraculous life with another. Here, have a look and see the world through my eyes. Listen to this song, try this, taste this. This is how I choose to connect with the creator. Isn’t it beautiful?
I’ve come to learn that love in its purest form, is an act of worship. It’s admiring God’s creation within another soul. Love isn’t about what you can get, it’s about pouring into someone else’s cup because your own is overflowing. Most of us settle for shallow levels of attachment. But there exists a rare form of divine love. Love so unworldly, you cannot ever deny the existence of God. Proper love doesn't distract you and pull you away from the presence of God, it enhances your connection with the divine.
True love acts as a mirror for your soul.
Your soulmate will hold up a mirror to your self so you can see your reflection properly. The purer your souls, the more accurately you can see each other’s true selves.
“To love someone means to see them as God intended them”- Fyodor Dostoyevsky
Real love isn’t always happy days and sunshine. It’s about navigating the ups and downs of life together. It’s about showing your full humanness to another and hearing the comforting words, let’s work through this together.
So you see, this form of love is not worth giving up on. It exists and you deserve it. So let’s talk about finding it.
finding love within yourself
As redundant as it may sound, it’s so important to find love within yourself first before you experience it with someone else. The quality of love you will experience corresponds to the depths in which you’ve met yourself. It’s easy to love yourself on good days. When you look good, you checked everything off your to do list, you stayed disciplined.
But what about the bad days?
Do you forgive yourself easily when you make mistakes? Do you speak to yourself kindly even when you’ve gained a few pounds, even when you fall short of your own expectations? Loving yourself is creating a safety net within yourself to fall back on even when the world seems to be falling apart. It’s prioritizing time with the only person who has been there all along: yourself.
stepping outside the noise
I’m not sure if it’s my algorithm or the actual state of the world, but there seems to be an active dispute between single men vs. women. Lately, I have been seeing many women romanticizing their hyper-independence. In many ways, this is to be celebrated. I think it’s incredible that we can create a life for ourselves without having to depend on someone else. At the same time, I’m not afraid to admit I would love to share this life with someone else. In order to do that, I can’t choose to participate in the narrative that there are no good men left. I can choose to celebrate my independence, but also desire companionship at the same time. Shifting the blame onto the other gender doesn’t actively help us move forward. It’s much easier to assume all men are bad because it helps us to shift away from self accountability. Real change begins when we begin to look inward first.
How can we shift from survival mode and lean into our feminine energy? How can we learn to create safety within ourselves and regulate our nervous systems? How can we avoid overgeneralizing, despite being hurt in the past? How can we cultivate hope even when the algorithms show us otherwise?
your soulmate is waiting for you
The right person will recognize your soul because they were searching for someone exactly as you are. You won’t have to perform. You won’t have to stay small. You won’t have to pretend to be more or less religious.
There is someone out there who will celebrate the very traits you were once made to feel small for. There is someone out there who would never make you feel ashamed for your past, because they recognize it’s what shaped you into the person you are today. There is someone out there who will help your nervous system feel at ease, who you will safe to create and build a life with. Trying to change yourself in hopes of finding someone will only invite the wrong people in. The right person will enter your life as soon as you start embracing yourself exactly as you are.
At the end of the day,
as Ram Dass once said,
we are all just walking each other back home .
