Comments - Chris Lehane: Resilience is a Safety Strategy
The Prompt: Insights from OpenAI Global Affairs
The social media parallel Chris raises is one I lived. I was on the front lines of that era, helping establish non-exploitative practices for creators and educating brand and technical partners on how to scale responsibly while protecting the people generating value. The system was imperfect. But the alternative — no disclosure frameworks, no worker protections, no norms at all — would have been far worse.
What's different now is the stakes. AI doesn't just reshape commerce or communication; it reshapes cognition. The real risk is organizations adopting AI in ways that hollow out the very human judgment they'll need to evaluate it. That's why "broad access" can't be the whole answer. Access has to be paired with intentional design: frameworks that help people develop alongside AI, not just deploy it.
Resilience, as Chris frames it, is built through participation. I'd add that it also requires architecture.
